Biography

Dancer from Cordoba and daughter from one of most famous flamenco guitar players “Merengue de Córdoba”, Desiré Calero (Córdoba, 1973) is the next generation from the prolific flamenco family: los merengues. His artistic name is Desiré Calero ‘La Merenguita’, she starts dancings with only 12 years old in her mother’s company, the international flamenco dancer Concha Calero, as well awarded with the Flamenco National Prize.

With only 15 years old, she makes her debut as lead dancer accompanied by his father’s guitar ‘Merengue de Cordoba‘, also rewarded with the flamenco national prize for guitar, and who he has shared more of his profesional career.

With more than 30 years of career, Desire Calero “La merenguita”, has act and dance in theaters all around the world, like brodway, new york, japan, europe and most of south american countries. She has shared the scene with some of the most important flamenco figures like Carmen Linares, Chano Lobato, Curro de Utrera, Fosforito, El Pele, Marife de Triana o La Macanita.

Nowadays, she is the artistic director in el Tablao Flamenco de Bodegas Campos, in cordoba.
